In this session, I will share the ways that myself and our math coach have made Literacy Family Night and Math Family Night differentiated and accessible to all grade levels and families. We will share our ideas for activities and ways to manage the night with low stress. We will share our tips and tricks for getting students and families to attend and be excited about participating.

The Design Lab started at Surry Elementary School in the fall of 2022. We had an empty room with absolutely nothing in it. Today we have a fully functioning space, programming for all PK-8 students, and a curriculum. We are also a recognized Fab Lab - one of just a few in Maine, but one of about 2,000 around the world. Research has shown the important role that spatial reasoning skills play in aspirations and success in STEM learning, and STEM based careers. We will unpack what spatial reasoning is, how we can embed spatial reasoning it into STEM learning, and test out our own spatial reasoning skills with strategies that can easily be adapted to the classroom.
